We know you’ve probably been thinking hard about how to celebrate World Toilet Day this year (November 19th, you philistines), but fear not, your problems have just been solved.

In the quest for ever greater toilet efficiency, Shanghai’s first unisex toilet is opening in Pudong New Area.

The 100sqm facility will be opening at the intersection of Zhangjiabang Lu and Pudong Lu S. and will have ten stalls that can be used by either men or women, a separate room for urinals and another separate room for people helping another, such as a parent with a child or someone accompanying a person with disabilities.

An official at Shanghai’s Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau said the facilities had been created keeping users privacy and safety in mind, but with all said and done, there's still divided public opinion:

"I think the toilet will provide convenience for both men and women because it can be used flexibly and save time,” said a man speaking to Shanghai Daily.

A female student said "It is very embarrassing, I will not feel comfortable using the facility with another man using it at the same time at a cubicle just beside me”.

In other sanitary stories however, one thing the people of Shanghai have been able to agree upon is that 'dog shit cake' is definitely not a local delicacy, despite rumors of it being sold as such.
