China's ruling elite has assembled in Beijing for the annual 'two sessions' – political meetings of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and National People’s Congress – which will run until March 14, in the case of the CPPCC, and March 16 for the NPC.
Aside from a few hot topics of discussion, the 2016 convention will likely be remembered less for its legislation and more for its uber-cool VR and 3D filming technology, fashionable security dogs and rampant selfie sticks. The photos below tell it all:
Above, a virtual reality camera is set up to capture the session. Journalists used VR and 3D technologies to cover the event this year, which garnered more attention than the meeting itself.
Onlookers and journalists snap photos of a VR camera outside the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.

Police dogs (sporting awesome kicks) are paired with officers to help detect explosives and assist in detaining suspicious passersby.
Hostesses for the event arrived early to pose (and leap) in front of Tian'anmen.
Although selfie sticks were banned inside the two sessions, this audacious group managed to capture a few priceless moments outside.

Fu Ying, spokeswoman for the National People's Congress, responds to questions after announcing China will boost defense spending by 7-8 percent in 2016, the smallest increase in six years.
