Popular nightclub Aurora, a favorite among Beijing party-goers since February 2018, has announced that it will close its doors.
A representative from Aurora told That’s that following a change in building management, the decision to close had been “sudden.” However, they also stressed that they were looking to find a new venue and re-open as soon as possible.
A post via Aurora's official WeChat account read, “Thank you for the support of all our friends and DJs. See you next time.” The post also stated that closing parties would take place at Aurora on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27, respectively.
Comments on the post from followers expressed disappointment at the closure. One user questioned why the past year had brought so much bad news. Meanwhile, another user said Aurora would always be “a home of happiness.”

Sanlitun Xi Jie used to have a number of notorious Beijing bars. However, there has been a slow exodus of drinking establishments from the street over the years. Before Aurora's announcement, First Floor also announced it would close earlier this year on January 30.
In 2017, The Beijing News reported that the street would be transformed into an “international fashion and culture area.” Indeed, pay a visit to the street today and one will find trendy coffee shops, a hair salon, a bookstore and more.
Long gone are the street’s bars and clubs; this will soon include Aurora.
