Mar 29: MaRthE

DDC brings you a fusion of French rock-jazz with MaRthE this Thursday night. The unlikely pairing was formed by Greek saxophone player Alexis Moutzouris and French trumpet player Florent Brique. Current members also include Lucas Territo on bass and Damien Bernard on drums. Layered with the make-and-break-the-rules style of improvisation and their incorporation of traditional Greek sound, this won't be something to miss.

Thurs Mar, 29, 9pm; RMB60 (door), RMB50 (presale). DDC, see event listing.

Mar 30 & 31: Terumasa Hino Quartet

The smooth stylings of legendary Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino will bless audience ears at Blue Note both Friday and Saturday night. Pairs well with a dry martini and fond memories of a long-lost lover.

Fri Mar 30 and Sat Mar 31, 7.30pm; RMB420. Blue Note, see event listing.

Mar 31: Nocturnes

Ethereal, dreamy introspective duo of Qinghai native Wei Du/Leslie and Irish expat David Carey will be at Yue Space this Saturday. After releasing Lines Written in Code, their recent full length LP, the Nocturnes' rise continues after signing a record deal as well as launching their 10-city mainland tour starting in Beijing.

Sat Mar, 31, 8.30pm; RMB80 (door), RMB60(presale). Yue Space, see event listing

Apr 1: All Sixes, Friendly Tips, Mr.S, All Unknown

It might be April Fools' Day but this gig is no joke. School Bar is putting on four local Chinese bands this Sunday. Among the line-up are punk rockers Friendly Tips bringing the noise, and AllSixes, mixing elements from jazz, rock and punk. It should be a good Sunday night, with cheap booze and unrestrained enthusiasm from the bands; there are worse ways to spend Sunday nights.

Sun Apr 1, 9pm; RMB60 (door), RMB40 (presale). School Live Bar, see event listing

Apr 3: Christopher Chaplin

Christopher Chaplin will be at Yue Space next Tuesday with his ambient orchestra of calculated, hypnotic sounds that could double as the soundtrack to a blackhole. If that's not enough, the experimental composer's set will be accompanied by visual art duo Luma Launisch.

Tue Apr 3, 8.30pm; RMB150 (door), RMB100 (presale). Yue Space, see event listing.
