Beijingers are holding a benefit this weekend to honor the life of Mike Peters, an expat who passed away today due to pancreatic cancer.
Mike Peters was a well known – and loved – figure within Beijing’s expat community. As a reporter for China Daily, Peters covered the capital’s restaurant and bar scene for over six years.
Peters’ friends are now organizing a benefit in his honor, which will take place this Sunday, August 20 from 3-6pm at TRB Copper. Funds raised from the event will cover Peters’ repatriation and hospital bills. Any extra money raised will go to Peters’ favorite charity, Step Up!, which supports nomadic children in Qinghai.
Each RMB100 donated at the event will buy a raffle ticket, with prizes generously donated by many of the Beijing bar and restaurant institutions that Peters loved. Beverages and snacks at the event will come courtesy of Slow Boat, BBC, XL, Cheers, Sommelier International, Wine Republic and TRB. The event’s organizers are requesting an RMB100 minimum donation.
Peters loved good food and great wines – so celebrate his life by raising a glass in his name.
