Which Bars and Restaurants Have Survived the Great Brickings of 2017?

We reported on them closing. It's only fair we report on them re-opening, too. The following bars and restaurants were victims of Beijing’s citywide brickings this spring. Here, a lowdown on pub-and-grub resurrections.

(For the purposes of this article, we’ve decided not to count places that reopened in the same location after closing temporarily. For a list of those, just... walk around Dongcheng district. Sigh.)

MoxiMoxi

Fried pitta and beef at MoxiMoxi

Where it moved: From Fangjia Hutong to nearby Beixinqiao Santiao.
Who's going: Beijing's Israeli expat community (which is bigger than you think it is); hutong hipsters.
Good for: Eating an entire bowl of hummus in one sitting.
See a listing for
MoxiMoxi.

The Tiki Bungalow

Where it moved: From Jiaodaokou Beisantiao to... Jiaodaokou Beisantiao (across the road, behind a cement wall).
Who's going: You, apparently (That’s Beijing readers voted Tiki their Bar of the Year in our 2017 Lifestyle Awards).
Good for: Waking up the next morning in a lei and a straw fedora, not sure of how the night ended.
See a listing for The Tiki Bungalow.

Anchor Bar

Where it moved: From a bare-bones spot on Xingfucun Zhonglu to a larger, nicer Yoolee Plaza location.
Who's going: Members and allies of the LGBTI community.
Good for: Catching a game (Anchor screens soccer matches).
See a listing for Anchor Bar.

Andy's Craft Sausages

Where it moved: From a stand-alone shop by Yashow to a pop-up kitchen in XL Bar.
Who's going: Meat lovers; anyone opposed to the concept of #fitfam.
Good for: Clogging your arteries and enjoying the process.
See a listing for Andy's Craft Sausages.

Rager Pie (now Hutonger Pie)

201708/rager-pie.jpg

Where it moved: From a tiny shop on Fensiting Hutong to an even tinier shop on Zhangzi Zhonglu.
Who's going: Weirdos (we mean this lovingly; the pie shop formerly known as Rager has one of the goofiest cult followings in Beijing).
Good for: Pie, obviously – both savory and sweet.
See a listing for Hutonger Pie. (WeChat: 13693171850)

Aperitivo

Where it moved: From Sanlitun “Dirty Bar Street” (RIP), to Sanlitun SOHO.
Who's going: The chefs of all your favorite Italian restaurants when they get off work.
Good for: Aperitivos (that's Italian for ‘aperitifs’); spritzes (that’s an Italian aperitivo).
See a listing for Aperitivo.

Revolution

Where it moved: From north of Yashow to Xingfuercun.
Who's going: Old China hands who like to say, "I've been going to Revolution for years!"
Good for: Craft cocktails; meeting old China hands who like to say, “I've been going to Revolution for years!”
See a listing for Revolution.
