We feel like we’ve been reporting nothing but bad news for months. First it was the razing of Beijing’s ‘Dirty Bar Street,’ then it was the closing of Beijing institutions Tiki Bungalow, Rager Pie, Más, and just this week it was the bricking up of Fangjia Hutong.
It’s been a rough couple months for Beijing’s bars and restaurants. But we finally have some good news for you… Tiki Bungalow has announced that they will be reopening in a new location!
The announcement was made by Oliver Davies, co-owner of Tiki, in a WeChat group of Tiki loyalists earlier today. Here's what he had to say:
"The parrots are stirring, geckos are twitching in preparation for.... yes you've guessed it: TIKI IS COMING BACK... it could be [a] month or a bit more, but watch this space to see THE TOUCAN RISE FROM THE RUBBLE!! Location found...but remains undisclosed....”
We don't exactly know where the new location will be. But Davies did say that the new Tiki will "be within a 50km radius of the old place, give or take 49km or so, as the toucan flies."
We’re not entirely sure what to make of that. But we do know that Beijingers will be able to sip on Tiki’s beloved tropical cocktails before too long.
