Through May 18: Australian Writers Week

The 10th anniversary edition of Australian Writers Week in China brings together a host of leading Australian authors to participate in a week of literary events around the country. The lineup includes Man Booker Prize winner Tom Keneally, Pulitzer Prize winner Geraldine Brooks, celebrated young adult fiction author John Marsden (of the Tomorrow series), and acclaimed indigenous children’s author and illustrator Bronwyn Bancroft. Events include workshops, readings, talks and more, while the tour covers various cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi’an, Guangzhou, Hohhot and Harbin. The annual Writers Weeks aims to raise awareness of the diversity of Australian literature – a must for book-lovers.

May 16: Free Wine Tasting @ Blow+Bar

Blow+Bar is hosting a free wine tasting on Tuesday. So if you feel like sipping on some complimentary Italian wine, just head over to their 3.3 Mall location on Tuesday evening. May 20: Food Revolution Day  

Farm to Neighbors is teaming up with The Hutong for an educational yet fun day centered around sustainable food. Stop by for a farmers market, DIY tea workshop, home gardening workshop, plus extra food and drink vendors on The Hutong’s rooftop. And as a bonus, you can also learn how to make Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver’s healthy Vietnamese spring rolls.

May 20: Dining for Diversity

In case you haven't heard of it before, Dining for Diversity is a fun and creative Beijing Gender initiative. The idea is to raise awareness and advocate for gender and sexual equality in China while eating great food with your nearest and dearest. Because this is a global initiative, Dining for Diversity dinner parties will be held all over Beijing - and around the world - on May 20. These parties can be hosted by anyone, and the goal is to raise awareness and funds for programs run by Beijing Gender in China and abroad. So this truly is dining for a good cause. May 20-Jun 11: Wicked

Wicked, the subversive story behind the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North is heading to Beijing on Sunday. The musical acts as a prequel of sorts to The Wizard of Oz. With music and lyrics composed by Grammy and Oscar-winning Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Enchanted), this two-act entertainment is packed with sparkling tunes, including show-stopper ‘Defying Gravity.’
