Could it be that the world’s coolest bridge is going to be build right here in Beijing? Well, it’s not officially the ‘world’s coolest bridge’ or anything. But, seriously it looks like it would be pretty damn awesome.

A proposal for the San Shan Bridge was submitted recently by the Beijing- and Vienna-based firm Penda along with Arup engineers, Inhabitat reports. The bridge was designed for the 2022 Winter Games which will be held in Beijing. It's double helix design serves as a clear reference to the Olympic rings.

The proposal has also made the shortlist for the 2016 World Architecture Festival.

If the proposal is accepted, the bridge would be built just outside of Beijing, over the Giu River. It would function to connect central Beijing with the mountainous area of Zhangjiakou, where the competitions will be held.

San Shan translates to “three mountains,” which refers to the three peaks that appear when the bridge is viewed from each side. It’s also an homage to the mountainous area that surrounds the proposed bridge.

The San Shan Bridge would extend 1,476 feet across the river and would boast four traffic lanes, two bike lanes and designated pedestrian lanes.
