June 30: Extremely Contemporary Quartet (Experimental Improvised Jazz)

Head over to DDC Thursday for a jazz-filled night. A bunch of talented jazz musicians will take the stage, including Kevin Sun on sax and clarinet, Terry Hsieh on trombone, Wangchenhuai on bass and Anthony Vanacore on drums.

Thurs June 30, 9pm; : RMB50 (door)/RMB40 (presale). DDC, see event listing for details.

July 1: Little Monster

Shanghai-based Little Monster is headed to Beijing before they embark on their month-long tour of South America in July. Beijing-based friends psych rockers Gate to Otherside, post-rock trio Lonely Leary and Not in Catalog will also be performing.

Fri June 1, 9.30pm, RMB50. School Bar, see event listing for details.

July 2: The Radio Dept.

Swedish dream-pop outfit The Radio Dept. don’t tour often these days. In fact, in our recent interview they told us that this month’s show at Yugong Yishan would probably be “one of the only shows we will play this year” (aside from an upcoming gig in Mongolia, of course). So be grateful Beijing – this is a rare thing. Expect some fuzz, some floaty synths, and a hearty dose of characteristically soft vocals from frontman Johan Duncanson. As for new songs? The band haven’t released a full-length album for six years, so maybe not. Check out our exclusive interview with The Radio Dept.

Sat July 2, 9pm; RMB200 (advance), RMB240 (door); Yugong Yishan, see event listing for details.

July 2: Alpine Decline @ School Bar

Reinvention is nothing new for Alpine Decline. Rising from the ashes of Los Angeles quartet Mezzanine Owls, the married duo of guitarist Jonathan Zeitlin and drummer Pauline Mu released three striking discs within a year before disappearing to Beijing five years ago. Now firmly established within the capital city’s indie scene, the band have gained a member and completely changed tack on their seventh album, Life’s A Gasp! Check out our exclusive interview with Alpine Decline

July 2, 9pm, RMB60-80. School Bar, see event listing for details.

July 3: GT Bitches Album Release

Glam punk rock group the GT Bitches are headed to Beijing from Jinan this weekend to promote their debut album. Actually they’re in the midst of performing at a whole host of album release shows. On Sunday they’ll be at School Bar for the last party of the weekend. With these guys it’s bound to be a good show. Garage punk trio Motorbike Girls and hard rockers Last Stand Doer will also be there.

July 3, 9pm-midnight, free entry. School Bar, see event listing for details.
