Still no clue what to do for New Year’s Eve? We got you.
On a global night of celebration, for which cities around the world have fireworks shows and building-sized LED countdowns on display, Beijing has...well, Migas.
Kidding. (Only sort of - I mean, Migas’ NYE party does sound pretty neat!) Beijing may save its big loud fiery displays for Chinese New Year, but that doesn’t mean our fair city has nothing to offer for those looking to mark the passing of time Gregorian. Below is a list of New Year’s Eve parties that confirm what we always knew: waiting out in the New York cold for a big-ass ball to drop is for losers. Drinking in Beijing is muuuch better.
The Final Countdown (Remixed)
A perfect option if you’re more craft beer than bubbly (although it’s got bubbly too), the Jing-A Taproom will offer a different special for each hour of the night. Half-price mala chicken, Jameson pickleback shots and bangin’ beer deals are on tap.
free entry, 4pm-2am
Nassa NYE Party
Modernsky Lab, one of the best things to happen to Galaxy SOHO, is hosting a badass New Year’s with the acclaimed Conrank as headliner. But that’s just the main room - there’s also a ‘Chill Room’ for when you need a break from all that bass.
RMB200 (RMB150 presale), 10pm-late
Migas’ New Year’s Eve Party ft Peng Label x The Migas Soundsystem
This multi-room party’s got a stacked lineup of DJs and - our favorite bit - a free glass of cava with entry. Pancake Lee, Boflex, Watermelon and Juhstynn are all on deck.
RMB160 (RMB120 presale), 9pm-4.30am
YEN Countdown 2016
One of Beijing’s longstanding New Year’s blowouts is back for its 11th iteration, with Mickey Zhang, Kay C, M.in.T, Danny Flora, MC Nasty Ray and more in tow.
RMB200 (RMB100 presale), 9pm-4am
Genesis 2016 New Year’s Eve Party
Lantern’s lined up a lengthy list of longstanding rabblerousers to ring in 2016: Eric Lee, QQ, Kai, M.in.T, OuYang, Nigls, Gee-E and Watermelon.
RMB100 (RMB60 presale), 10pm-7am
Miami Vice New Year’s Eve Party
Hutong hoodrats rejoice: Club Paradise is taking over Modernista for a Miami Vice-style party. Beijing’s most dangerous drink deal - RMB10 shots after midnight - still applies.
free entry, 10pm-late
New Year’s Eve at Dada
If all the glitz of NYE is too much for you, head over to Dada to get down and dirty. That’s about all we can tell you - the details of the event are being kept secret. But with free entry, we’re cool with surprises.
free entry, 10pm-6am
C’est Chic - NYE at Cicada
Barcelona-based DJ Marc Pinol flies in for an exclusive Asia gig, playing everything from disco to house and techno.
RMB100 (comes with drink), 10pm-late
CHEERS x Papp’s Tea New Year’s Party
Papp’s Tea Lounge and Cheers, west side of Yashow Market
‘Free’ is the key word for this celebration - Papp’s Tea is giving away 100 cups of tequila tea and 100 cups of hibiscus gin, while its neighbor CHEERS is offering 200 glasses of free sparkling.
free entry, 8pm-late
New Year’s Parties at Spark Beijing
Spark Beijing doesn’t really count as a NYE party… because it’s three parties. On Dec 30, DJ Danny Avila is stopping by - the young (20!) Spaniard has made a name for himself with his rambunctious house and electro (RMB100 for men, free for ladies). And for New Year’s Eve, Spark is hosting a countdown blowout with more bubbly than is probably healthy (RMB200 for men, free for ladies).
But the real treat is Spark’s New Year’s Day Celebration with R3HAB. Spark is keeping the party going Jan 1 with a visit from European DJ and producer R3HAB. While ravers may recognize his name from his 2011 visit (also at Spark), the man’s fame has grown majorly since, working with high-profile chart-toppers the likes of Calvin Harris and Deorro.
RMB200 (RMB100 presale),
