NEW BEER ALERT
Here at Beersmith, we love to flavour our beers with ingredients that connect us to China. And what could be more quintessentially Chinese than tea?
With summer on the way, the Beersmith brew masters decided to create a refreshing new pale ale using hand-picked black tea from Wuyi Mountain in Fujian Province in southwest China. Teas from Wuyi Mountain have a unique terroir thanks to the steep mountain slopes and mineral-rich soils.
In order to highlight the flavours of the tea, the brewers used citrussy Amarillo hops. Amarillo has one of the highest Myrcene oil contents of any hop, which gives them buckets of sweet orange and grapefruit notes. However, the brewers had to carefully control the amount of hops to make sure that the floral and fruit notes of the tea shine through. Swaen Pils malt also makes the beer lighter and more fragrant.
