WHAT IS LINDY HOP?
Lindy Hop is the most well-known type of swing dance, originated in Harlem, New York and especially popular throughout the 1920s-1950s. It's a partnered social dance based on leading and folowing, and danced to jazz music from the same era (mainly Big Band swing). It's a very diverse dance, including many elements combined in a free improvisational manner.

WHAT IS BALBOA?
Balboa is another social partnered swing dance that originated in Southern California during the 1920s and 1930s and gained in popularity in the 1930s and 1940s. It is danced primarily in close embrace to upbeat swing music. This dance is also fully improvisational and can be quite energetic yet elegant. Today many people around the world enjoy this type of swing dance.

WHICH ONE TO JOIN?
The choice really depends on your preference. If you like faster tempos and dressing up, we recommend Balboa. If you like more open moves and jumps, we recommend Lindy Hop. But the best choice of course would be to learn both! Even though these are two different styles, they have a lot in common and use similar techniques and rhythm.
