Following in the footsteps of Toy Story and Peppa Pig, another classic cartoon will soon have its own themed land right here in Shanghai, reports Kankanews.

The theme park will be divided into four sections, where visitors can adventure around the world of the Smurfs, interact with fan favorite characters like Smurfette and Brainy Smurf and help them fight the evil wizard, Gargamel. The wonderland will become the first Smurfs theme park in Asia.

Without a doubt, Shanghai has become an ideal destination for family vacations. Ever since the opening of Shanghai Disney, the number of tourists the city receives has increased by over 20 million annually. Family tourists accounted for 46 percent of all visitors to Shanghai last year. It is safe to say more and more family-friendly spots will soon rise up across the city.

The Smurfs Theme Park has broken ground and will be open to locals and tourists alike within the year.
