New restaurant: Sicilia Bar & Club

After being refurbished and upgraded, LAX Club has taken on a new face with a new name: Sicilia Bar & Club.

Like many bars and clubs in town, Sicilia is divided into two sections. With DJ performances and a pulsating sound system – plus enough space between the tables to shake your tush – the indoor area is definitely for dancers. Meanwhile, those who want to chill with a drink can lounge on the outdoor terrace, though the music is still loud enough to make your cocktail glass vibrate. Ideal for the weekends, perhaps, but during the week the hubbub is a little much for work-weary bones.

All the usual suspects are on the menu: cognac, whisky, vodka, champagne, wine and beer. Cocktails, however, are the main attractions. Of all the choices to glug back, the mojito (RMB48) is particularly good. Served in a jar and garnished with fresh mint leaves, this well-presented drink is a heat quencher.

Sex on the beach (RMB48) and blue cosmopolitan (RMB48) are both light and sweet. We’re guessing the mixologist favors whisky above all other spirits, since it’s liberally applied in the manhattan (RMB48).

If you want some small bites to go with your beer, there’s a Western snack menu that even offers assorted pizza slices (RMB20) – not your typical club canape, but who are we to complain when the stomach is rumbling?

Hoping to attract the fairer sex, Sicilia gifts party girls who dress to impress a reward card. Cardholders can receive a complimentary “Fashion Girls Champagne” during certain hours and a 10 percent discount. Bottoms up, ladies!
