Trash can army invades Bao’an

City officials in Shenzhen have found an excellent way of combating the city’s litter problem: by making it harder to actually litter waste than to bin it. In a somewhat creative move, a 200-meter walkway in the city’s Bao’an district now enjoys the advantages of 150 trash cans, one for each bench. These were reportedly requested by a local factory owner who wished to promote the good habit of throwing away trash in an environmentally friendly manner.

With every other object in a 200-meter line a receptacle of trash, passing citizens will no doubt get the message. Whether that message is on the benefits of clean streets or on the dreadful aesthetics of 150 trash cans remains to be seen.
