La Francophonie celebrates la belle langue française in Shenzhen on March 20

La Francophonie International Day will commemorate a week of events celebrating the beauty of the French language and the 50th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations on March 20.

Organized by Bienvenue, Shenzhen’s social club for French expats, La Francophonie provides a platform for French and Chinese people to come together in a bond of creativity.

Events include:

  • March 12 - French language challenge: “Dis-moi dix mots… à la folie!”  Designed to showcase the capacity of the French language to welcome meaningful and amusing verbal inventions, participants are asked to send a 1,000-word composition in any form that includes the following ten words: ambiancer, à tire-larigot, charivari, s'enlivrer, faribole, hurluberlu, ouf, timbré, tohu-bohu and zigzag. Submit entries to shenzhenbienvenue@gmail.com by 7pm March 12. 
  • March 17 to 21 - Children’s events for La Francophonie: A series of events for children will run from March 17 to 21, including a comic exhibition, a magician and movies.
  • March 18 – French Music: Rendezvous at Trainspotting, bar in Shekou at 7:30pm with Marc, Gaël and Co for a French evening of song.   • March 20 – Celebration of French Culture: Festive, gastronomical and cultural, March 20 marks the high point of La Francophonie. Expect photography, food, music, art and more! French actor Thomas Bellehchili will be on hand to recite the best entries of the French language challenge.
  • March 20 – April 19 «Vues deFrance, vu de Chine» Don’t miss this exhibition of contemporary French photography, including work from Emilie Rolin, Cyril Marcilhacy, Tanguy De Montesson, Elodie Ravaux, Ambroise Touvet and Jean-Philippe Maigret. Venue TBA.
