On September 26, the first-ever nonstop Shenzhen-Seattle flight took off from Shenzhen’s Bao’an International Airport. The new route is being flown by a Boeing 787 operated by Xiamen Airlines.
Chinese state media has described the new Xiamen-Shenzhen-Seattle rought as the connection of “two of China’s major special economic zones and an economic heavyweight on the US's west coast.”
Flights to Seattle will leave Shenzhen every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will cost, for a limited time, a mere RMB3861 (taxes included) for a return ticket.
The flights depart Shenzhen at 12.45pm and will reach Seattle at 10.25am local time. Xiamen airlines will also provide passengers who are flying from Xiamen to Seattle with free accommodations when the flight connection in Shenzhen is over six hours.
The international relationship director of Washington state, Schuyler Hoss, told Xinhua that “the new route will help build up a long and beneficial relationship between Shenzhen, Seattle and the two countries.”
Shenzheners can expect a slew of new direct routes from October, including to Auckland, Melbourne, Nagoya and Chiang Mai.
