The family of three who parked their car on Wuxi Lu, Longgang District (in Buji), in the early hours of July 17 must have gotten a scare, to say the least, when the vehicle burst into flames just three minutes after they walked away from it.

A resident in the area remembered being awakened around that time by two popping noises, followed by clouds of black smoke entering his or her home. Looking out the window, the cause of the smoke was immediately apparent: the vehicle on fire was so bright it lit up most of the parking lot.

Luckily, the flames didn't spread to the surrounding cars. Firefighters and an ambulance arrived on the scene quickly and were able to put out the fire before further disaster ensued.

A photo of the aftermath shows that the car was heavily damaged. All in all, the family who owned the car got off pretty lightly, with no casualties resulting from the incident.

According to them, they had arrived home late from a visit to an apartment complex in the Buji area. Just three minutes after they parked their car, it spontaneously combusted.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
