Fitness: Challenge yourself!

No more waiting, no more excuses; you have made it through the winter months, you’re back from vacation, and all the eating holidays are behind you. It’s time to get serious about creating a healthier you.

Start by visualizing how you see yourself now, and then create a clear mental picture of who you want to become. Is your goal to lose 5 pounds? To create a more toned physique? Whatever it is, visualize yourself having achieved the goal, and then do what you have to do to make it reality.

What is the hardest part of the transformation process? In my experience, bad habits are enemy number one – and overcoming them is not easy. It helps to give yourself a set time period to take a break from your bad habits. A short, defined interval works well because mentally you don’t have to prepare for ‘forever’ – you can take it one day at a time, knowing that there will be an end point. Often, by the time you reach that end point, you’ve kicked your bad habits for good!

So give yourself a deadline to reach the results you’ve imagined, and then hold yourself to it. It might sound overwhelming at first, but it’s actually an empowering gift: the time and determination to become your best self.

With determination, mental and physical transformation that lasts a lifetime can start with a set period of time as short as 10 to 12 weeks. The K2Fit Fitness Challenge lasts 10 weeks and starts on March 23. I encourage you to sign up, in order to get the most out of yourself with the guidance of a trainer (me!).

But even if you aren’t ready to join the challenge, go ahead and challenge yourself. Start with this home workout. You need no equipment and it will only take you 10-20 minutes, depending on how many rounds you perform and your rest time. Complete three to five rounds, with 30 to 60 seconds of rest in between:

5 burpees

10 push-ups

15 crunches

20 squats (advanced: add jumps)

25 jumping jacks

This is my challenge to you: transform yourself. Become stronger, fitter, faster, healthier and happier. You won’t know what you’re truly capable of until you test yourself. Your metamorphosis can start now and last a lifetime.

Fitness: What if I fail?

We’ve all heard the saying that “trying and failing is better than not trying at all.” It’s another thing to put these words into action: making an attempt, sometimes failing, but learning from our mistakes and going at it again.

Fitness: Isolation training

When I ask my clients what their goal for fitness training is, they always tell me that their ideal body would look toned and healthy with defined muscles. In my experience, the most tried and tested way to achieve this is through strength training and isolation.

Fitness: Post-holiday blues

Confession time. As I write this, my eyes are on my computer, but my mind is on eggnog. It’s my weakness, and every Christmas I drink lots of it. We all have our guilty pleasures and holiday indulgences, but when the presents are all unwrapped and the party is over, most of us struggle to go back to good eating and exercise habits.
