The long-expected Line 6 finally came into use on December 29. Travelling from Xunfenggang (浔峰岗) to Changban (长湴), Line 6 connects Jinshazhou (金沙洲) in Baiyun District with the outskirts of Tianhe District.

Containing seven interchange stations along the route, the most of all the metro lines in Guangzhou, Line 6 goes through several commercial centers - including Haizhu Plaza, Beijing Lu shopping area, Dongshankou and Tianhe Coach Terminal. On its first day of operation, it attracted nearly 3,080,000 people.

Jinshazhou is a new residence hotspot in Guangzhou, as the house prices there are relatively lower. Currently there are 160,000 residents living there. The opening of Line 6 is meant to effectively alleviate traffic pressure, even though it has only four carriages.
