2 Dead as Bus Mows Down Pedestrians on Guangzhou Sidewalk

UPDATE (October 26, 2017 at 11.02am CST): According to a post on the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau’s official Weibo account, yesterday’s deadly runaway bus incident was the result of brake failure. Click here for a full update on the accident.

Two people were killed and four more wounded after a bus mounted the sidewalk and ploughed into pedestrians in Guangzhou's Yuexiu District this afternoon.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm at Wanling Square on Jiefang Lu and resulted in the immediate dispatch of medical staff and police. The bus, route 194, also collided with three cars. 

Details of the horrendous accident were released to the public via the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau’s official Weibo account

Authorities have yet to release information on whether the deadly incident was a premeditated act or the result of a mechanical issue. In one video, the bus appears to be swerving towards groups of pedestrians.
