May 1: The Pure Bach Alban Gerhardt Cello Recital
German cellist Alban Gerhardt is among the greatest cellists of our time. Having grown up in a musical family – his father was a violinist playing with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for over 40 years – Gerhardt is able to shed new light on standard works and bring unknown pieces to life. Come to the Guangzhou Opera House and enjoy Gerhardt’s recital, which will feature J.S. Bach’s complete suites for solo cello.

May 4: The Beatleband
Four expats, with a love for the sounds of the 60s, have come together to recreate ‘Beatlemania.’ Performing The Beatles’ greatest hits from each of their best-selling albums, the group will take you on a musical journey through the life and times of the world’s most celebrated band.
All band members are accomplished musicians who boast both natural talent and a passion for being on stage. They pride themselves in showmanship, energy, quality and commitment. Come and ‘Twist and Shout’ to ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ ‘Yesterday,’ ‘Hey Jude’ and many more of The Beatles’ most popular songs!

May 5: Cinco De Mayo at the Brew
Don’t miss the chance to celebrate Cinco De Mayo this week at The Brew Bistro & Bar’s Zhujiang and Panyu locations. Although costumes will be provided, if you come in your own wears you can enjoy a free shot of tequila. Arrive by 9pm if you want to participate in – or just watch – the jalapeno eating contest.

May 6: Dare2Wear Party
Dust off your banana suit, sexy-nun outfit or whatever strange costume you may have hiding in your wardrobe, because the Dare2Wear party is here. Organized by the charity organization Hopeful Hearts, Dare2Wear will be held at the Happy Monk’s new Kingold Century location. May 6: Wilber’s Cooking Class

May 7: La Traviata by Artemis Danza
La Traviata is a dance tribute to Italian composer Guiseppe Verdi’s namesake opera, created by Italian modern dance troupe Artemis Danza, member of World Dance Alliance (Europe), and infuses modern dance with elements of Italian opera. Using dance steps and body movements, dancers convey the melancholy love between Violetta and Alfredo, the story's main characters.

May 7: Bang Gang
Icelandic pop band Bang Gang, founded in 1996 by Renaissance man and multi-instrumentalist Bardi Johannsson, are recognized for their blend of songwriting, electronica and glacial atmosphere. Johannsson, described as “an island within the music industry in Iceland” by Iceland Magazine, left the band in 2008 but returned in 2014 with the album The Wolves Are Whispering, in which he reflects on both his technical and personal growth.
