UPDATE (October 28, 2016 at 9.37pm CST): Unfortunately, organizers have had to cancel this year’s Melbourne Cup Luncheon due to issues securing a reliable satellite or cable connection for the race.
The Melbourne Cup is often called “the race that stops a nation,” and it does – much in the same way Harambe’s death made everyone in America stop and say, “Why did they shoot that lovable gorilla?”
While admittedly that comparison is a bit of a stretch (also a bit weird, but who is judging), there is no doubt The Melbourne Cup is a big deal to Australians – even those living abroad.

The event, aptly titled the 2016 Melbourne Cup Luncheon, will feature premium Aussi eats and drinks and, rumor has it, two return airfares to Australia courtesy of China Southern.
In addition to dining, drinking and socializing, you can feel good about your choice to attend this event due to its fundraising drive for the Wilber’s Foundation, a charity for underprivileged children.
