June 15: Benoît Peeters

In addition to a firm and thin stroke, drawing comic books requires inspiration and reflection. This year’s Festival Croisements invites revered comic writer, novelist and critic Benoît Peeters to visit the Library Borges in Guangzhou, where he will share his works and engage with the audience.

June 15: Guangzhou Int'l Dragon Boat Races

On Wednesday, June 15, from 10am-4pm, professional teams from all over the world will go head-to-head in a series of races on the Pearl River. Competitors will gather at the north gate of Sun Yat-Sen University and head east along the river towards Guangzhou Daodao Zhong (Guangzhou Middle Avenue). Public viewing areas will be located to the east of the university gate and across the water on Ersha Island, west of Xinghai Concert Hall.

June 15: Oil Painting Experimental Class

Looking to hone your artistic skills beyond selecting the best Instagram filters? Contrary to what you may hear, it’s never too late to start. Come to the picturesque village of Xiaozhou in Haizhu District for a weekly class in oil painting and surround yourself with other ardent beginners. The classes will feature an instructor and set objective, but students can also opt to pursue their own projects. Bring your creativity and an open mind!

June 16: Hooley's Trivia Night

This Thursday is Hooley's last trivia night of the season, before taking a hiatus for summer vacation. Head over to indulge in a wide range of questions and prizes for the top three teams! Hang around after to enjoy live music.

June 17-18: 'Dinner Four Hands' at The Butcher's Block

Always on the lookout to mix things up, Chef Rodrigo Gonzalez and the team at The Butcher’s Block are back at it this month with a unique dinner event that is not to be missed. On June 17 and 18, Gonzalez will team up with chef, food consultant and lifestyle blogger Alvaro Ramos to present ‘Dinner Four Hands,’ a culinary collision comparable to the superhero throw-down chronicled in this year’s Batman v. Super – only with food instead of fists. At present, the menu is being kept a closely guarded secret, but rest assured: it’s sure to be a home run.

June 18: Stand-Up Comedy Workshop

Have you ever wanted to perform stand-up comedy? Do you want to give your public speaking skills a boost? Then come to the first comedy workshop in Guangzhou hosted by Dr. Panda Comedy Club and learn about the history of stand-up, the anatomy of a joke, creative writing strategies and performance skills. Braver participants will even have a chance to get on stage to practice their routine at the end of the meeting. There is limited space available, so reserve your spot online today!

June 18-19: Music Day 2016

Coinciding with Fete de la Musique, this music festival in Shunde will feature a number of French and Chinese artists, including up-and-coming bands Last Train and Nach (French singer Anna Chedid). Admired for her chanson, or lyric-driven compositions, Nach charms with a smooth, sensual style and vibrant character.
