Music is the heroin of the masses and, in Guangzhou, Hooley’s Battle of the Bands is the needle that feeds that addiction.
It’s the greatest showcase of musical talent in southern China – and that is almost undisputable (unless you factor in Hong Kong).
The event brings in bands from all over the PRD and offers them the opportunity to walk away with a considerable amount of cash. According to organizers, this year’s opening rounds brought in 32 bands - the most ever.
With over RMB35,000 in prizes available this Saturday (November 28), Hooley’s 8th Annual Battle of the Bands is a party you don’t want to miss (unless you really, really value your hearing).
The preliminary rounds were held last week and offered some difficult decisions for the judges (full disclosure, the author of this article was one of the judges). With the grand finale just over the horizon, lets take a glimpse at the current schedule for Saturday’s show:
White Shirt Band: 8.30-9.15pm
Radiogamma: 9.15-10pm
White Clown: 10-10.45pm
Colin Phils: 11-11.45pm
Dragon Turtle: 11.45pm-12.30am
The Sleepwalkers: 12.30-11.15am
Riven (guest performance): 1.15-2am
Winner announcements: 2am
