Commute between Guangzhou and Shenzhen by helicopter

There is a new option for commuting between Guangzhou and Shenzhen and it comes in the form of a helicopter.

According to the China Daily, local airline Astro Air may begin an inter-city helicopter service as soon as September.

The trip will take roughly 35 minutes and will fly from the roof of Shenzhen’s Excellence Century Center and Zhujiang New Town in Guangzhou. According to media reports, Astro Air plans to operate one or two flights daily.

While, on paper anyway, the new service sounds convenient, critics are saying it will likely be too expensive for most people.

“The service is not suitable for working class people like me, since the primary factor for me is price,” Xing Huan, an architectural designer, told the China Daily.

Currently, a helicopter route that runs between Shenzhen and Macau costs RMB4300 for a 15-minute flight. Using this price as an example, we can assume the Guangzhou to Shenzhen flight will be a tad pricy.

According to the China Daily, an Astro Air marketing employee refuted this assessment, claiming the company is committed to being affordable.

“We hope ordinary people can afford to enjoy our helicopter service,” the unnamed employee told the China Daily.

Critics also point out that the transportation network between the two cities is already highly developed, making the service unnecessary.
