Xi Jinping and Barack Obama enjoy moonlit stroll

Last night, US president Barack Obama and Chinese leader Xi Jinping enjoyed a leisurely stroll and private chat in Zhongnanhai, the former imperial residence turned Communist Party leadership compound located beside the Forbidden City in central Beijing.

The two took in the commanding view from the compound's Yingtai or Ocean Platform, an historical recreation area for imperial wives and concubines surrounded by water on all sides.

Thanks to 'APEC blue' conditions, the skies above Zhongnanhai were doubtless clear and starry, and they might have even spotted a wintry lunar halo around the moon.

A joint press conference between the two leaders will be held later this morning, where they might just reveal what they were chatting about, and what evidently startled them so much...

Let's just hope this latest saunter inspires yet more Winnie the Pooh and Tigger memes..
