Jan 18: YCIS Beijing's Annual Temple Fair
The Chinese New Year festivities are officially starting. Kick off the Year of the Rooster's festival action at the YCIS annual Temple Fair. There will be a bunch of vendors, tons of activities and some fun shows – including a martial arts and shadow puppet show. As always, this is a great one for the whole family.
Wed Jan 18, 8.30am-2.30pm; Free entry. Yew Chung International School, see event listing.
Jan 18: CHEERS Wine School
Every Wednesday this month, CHEERS is hosting their free Mini Wine School at all Beijing locations. Not only will you get to learn a thing or two about wine, but you get to drink some wine for free. So it's a win-win (or shall we say wine-wine) situation.
Wed Jan 18, 6pm. CHEERS Fenghuanghui Store, see event listing.
Jan 21: Jing-A Hutong Haircut Brunch
Did you know it's bad luck to get your hair cut during the month following Chinese New Year? Well, apparently it is. So in case you don’t want to be a disheveled mess next month head over to Gulu Bazz (formerly Cu Ju) on Saturday from 12-5pm to get a free cut! All you have to do is buy a pint of Jing-A beer and an on-site barber will give your hair a spruce. To make this event even better, Badr will also be cooking up a shakshuka brunch.
Sat Jan 21, 12-5pm. Gulu Bazz, see event listing.
Jan 21: Dining Out for the Center
The Beijing LGBT Center and Ramo are coming together for yet another awesome Dining Out for the Center fundraising event. So if you’re down to support diversity – and to have fun doing it – then why not enjoy a killer meal at Ramo on Saturday. Ramo will be donating 20 percent of their proceeds to the Center. After dinner move on to Mimi e Coco because they will also be donating 20 percent of proceeds from their special LGBT drink, The Stranger, to the Beijing LGBT Center.
Sat Jan 21, 6-9pm. Ramo, see event listing.
Jan 21: Ordering Food Online and Using Chinese Uber
Sometimes it’s hard living in a city where you're not fluent in the language (sure, you should perfect your Chinese but life is busy and it’s a hard language, OK?!). This issue is particularly problematic when trying to order food online. The Sinology Institute Courtyard feels your (hunger) pain and is here to help with its class on ordering online and using Chinese Uber (in case you decide to catch a cab to a restaurant instead of eating in, we guess).
Sat Jan 21, 1.30-3.30pm; free; Sinology Institute Courtyard.
