5 Things: Soul Clap on R. Kelly, Vinyl & Impromptu Live Sets

The funky Boston duo in their own words:

1. Lately we’ve been talking about wanting to work with R. Kelly.

He’s the best male R&B singer alive, he’s from Chicago so he understands house and we know he’s already been collaborating with legends like Maurice Joshua, Terry Hunter and Wayne Williams. We think we could flip something really special for him. Kells get at us!

2. We haven’t been announcing the live sets.

The crowd has just been showing up and seeing all of our synths and microphones set up. Then suddenly we’re mixing into a live performance and people are loving it.

3. Eli lost his virginity...

in a dark corner at a rave when he was a teenager.

4. Once you hear your music on vinyl it’s a true thrill.

Vinyl is the best sounding, most tactile, most exciting and least convenient musical format.

5. We each bring our own tastes to Soul Clap.

But usually we agree on all of the music that we present as a duo. There are sometimes exceptions to the rule, like when Charlie goes way out into musical outer space or when Eli goes a little ‘Fred Flintstone’ with the DJ set.
