Beijing authorities have announced plans to build 1,300 community centers for the city’s elderly residents, Beijing Morning Post reports.
The capital built over 2,000 elderly daycare centers in 2009. However, because of a severe lack of finances and poor management only 70 percent remain open. Authorities will now fund new facilities in order to cope with Beijing's rapidly aging population.
In order to help ensure the success of the new centers, authorities have announced that they will all be funded by the government and managed by professional companies that have experience caring for the elderly.
Committees will be created in communities throughout Beijing and will function to introduce the new centers to their residents.

Not only will the prices of these new facilities be more affordable than what's currently on offer, but those who don't have an income or don't have children will be offered the services for free.
In addition to offering daycare for Beijing’s elderly residents, the new centers will offer health education, counseling and entertainment. The new elderly care facilities are expected to be completed in the next few years.
