Old What Bar, one of Beijing's longstanding underground music venues, has officially closed its doors. As of now, the reason for the closure is unknown. Though there is some speculation among Beijingers that the abrupt closure may have something to do with the venue’s location, in the rather sensitive Forbidden City area.

Whatever the reason, Beijing music fans will likely be bummed to hear the news. Perhaps What Bar will be back. But for now its doors are shut. We'll be sure to update you with news as it comes in.
