The capital has come down with yet another case of yellow fever, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Health. The latest patient is a 50-year-old male from China’s Fujian Province who recently visited Angola, reports Xinhua.
This is the fourth such case reported in Beijing since March 13. All four patients contracted the virus while visiting Angola. The African nation is currently coping with a deadly outbreak that has been responsible for the deaths of hundreds since December.
The latest patient in Beijing reportedly began exhibiting feverlike symptoms while in Angola on March 6 and was treated in multiple hospitals in the country. While entering the Beijing Capital International Airport on March 18, the man told airport officials that he had not been vaccinated before visiting Angola. After testing positive for the virus he was sent to the hospital, where he is in serious condition.
The deadly virus is commonly found in tropical areas in Africa and South America. It is transmitted by infected mosquitoes. The virus can have a range of effects from fever to severe liver disease and even death.
