Suzhou Museum is showcasing its collection of more than 40 pieces of bamboo and plum blossom paintings through the beginning of June. Both classic symbols of a traditional Chinese gentlemen, these two plants have been popular subjects for artists and poets since the Tang dynasty.

All Month Long: Square Art Presents Mathias Milhaud
The works of artist Mathias Milhaud will be exhibited at 56 Creative Space until June 30 as part of Square Art International's artist residence project. Born in 1981 in Paris, Milhaud lives and works in Paris. His pieces feature sawed objects painted into forms that look like extensions of the recurrent naive or simple paintings, bridging the gap between the canvas and real life.

Featuring the newest creations of contemporary artist/painter Zhu Yuze, this exhibition showcases his signature style of blending Chinese and Western-style oil painting to showcase the harmony between life and nature.

Through May 20: Zhou Haiyun’s Embroidery Exhibition
A tradition of Suzhou since the Song dynasty, many modern day embroiderers based in small towns near Taihu dedicate their lives to preserve this age-old craft. Suzhou born craftswoman Zhou Haiyun, who has more than 40 years of experience in this field and is known for her depiction of local sceneries with embroidery, will be showcasing her work at the Suzhou Museum.

The Camelympic Games are back! For those who don’t know, the Camelympics is a competition of pub games across five disciplines: Shuffleboard, Darts, Foosball, Pool and Golden Tee Golf. Teams of no more than eight people compete in games on Saturday nights throughout the month May. Those that qualify can play in a grand final on June 2, with the victorious team winning a steak dinner each and a keg of Carlsberg to share. May 3: DDL Presents Hot Club of Beijing
China’s premier gypsy jazz ensemble the Hot Club of Beijing lands in Suzhou on May 3 as part of their national tour. Suzhou-based teacher Lydia Nordlien will be holding 'Hack Hanzi' workshops and crashcourses throughout the month of May to help you get started or prepare for the HSK. Participate in both the crashcourse and workshop for the complete version, or just take part in the crashcourse to learn what Hanzi is about and how easy it can be. Both classes have plenty of interaction, exercises and other activities and entry fee includes drinks. Note that workshop attendees are required to have previously attended the crashcourse. May 12: Dulwich College Suzhou Founder's Day
Join Dulwich College to celebrate its biggest event of the year. The entire Suzhou community is invited to join the Dulwich community in the celebration of the school's founding father, Edward Alleyn. In conjunction with this year's theme of "Celebrating Diversity," there will be food and drinks from more than 20+ countries, goodies from dozens of vendors and music performances from Dulwich's talented students. Other fun activities are also planned, including a parents vs. staff football tourne and student art exhibit co-organized by DCSZ and the Friends of Dulwich. Selected student artworks will be exhibited and available for purchase on that day. All proceeds from Founder's Day will go towards charity and school projects.

Opening May 26: Freedom World
Square Art International presents Freedom World, a graffiti army from Europe, from May 26 to June 24. Featured artists of the Shi Jianfang-curated exhibition include Konair Onergizer, El Xupet Negre, Btoy Andrea, Timothee Pomier, Mathias Milhaud, Elsie Pomier and Luc Schumutz. The exhibition opening is on May 26 at 3pm.

The original American production of the popular family-friendly musical is coming to Suzhou for four shows this month. June 2: The Little Singers of Paris
One of the world's top boys' choirs, The Little Singers of Paris have already performed in more than 80 countries, and are known as the French ambassadors of peace. For their Suzhou show, the young singers will be bringing a range of classical, traditional and folk songs from various countries, including China, to the audience.
