When children sit down to create, they aren’t concerned about the end product. They make choices based purely on what they like and how they feel. Even as adults, art can create this same carefree kind of space. Your brushes don’t know about your burdens. Your canvas isn’t judging you. There are no boundaries of right and wrong, good or bad. You are free to simply do whatever you like. I have learned to enjoy this space, allowing any thoughts or emotions to simply flow. I can be free to fully experience and even wallow in grief, joy, frustration, peace…

This show is a manifestation of that process; a winding path to finding that childlike joy again. Sometimes this path is clear and direct and bright, as reflected in the more mimetic pieces. Sometimes that path is a bit foggy and uncertain. Sometimes it is completely obstructed and the only way forward is to lean into our feelings.
