Events and festivities have been resurfacing in Shenzhen this summer with all the appropriate precautions in place. Among them is PRD’s premier annual design fair Shenzhen Creative Week (SZCW), returning from July 25-28 for its 37th edition. The event will take place at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center—the city’s latest and largest venue.
This year will see SZCW cross a major milestone with the relaunch of Design Dome, its key parallel exhibition. If you’re a design professional, home décor connoisseur, aspiring designer, or simply an admirer of good art and high-end design, Design Dome will be right up your alley: the four-day event will feature some of the world’s leading home furnishings and interior design brands, renowned artists and designers, platforms for emerging talent, talks and forums, and much more.
What to Expect from Design Dome
Several of Design Dome’s inaugural exhibitors include Zanotta, Fredericia, and Edra, among other Italian furniture manufacturers; Nordic design pioneer Fritz Hansen; Hong Kong-based outdoor furniture Livintwist; and Swedish public infrastructure company Green Furniture Concept. This will be the first appearance in China for some of the brands in the lineup, marking their foray into the country by way of the Greater Bay Area.
Industrial designer Tommaso Masera will present his much-anticipated collaborative project Material_S, which he curates with the help of Alessandro Guerriero—founder of Alchimia and one of Italy’s most influential designers. Material_S will showcase artwork from artists, designers, and materials manufacturers from across China and the world who have spent the last few months exploring, testing, and pushing the boundaries of various materials.
A big part of Design Dome’s Hall 15 is dedicated to a series of platforms promoting exceptional and growing designers worldwide. Designew and WISE, led and curated by renowned Chinese designer Mario Tsai, shine a spotlight on emerging and aspiring design talent; and International Designer Connection (IDC) provides a space for independent design studios to showcase their work and services.
Also featured at the event will be the German Design Pavilion, which will house the winning designs of the German Design Council’s ICONIC AWARDS, and The Playground between People and Object exhibit by Yuhsien Lin.
Lounge and Forum
Those interested in industry talks and presentations are welcome to Idea Out, to which companies, designers, and other professionals from various design fields have been invited to speak. The forum will cover trending topics and important issues in the industry, such as environmental awareness, the relationship between brands and designers, innovative materials applications, and haute couture in interior design.
Located right next to Idea Out is the Let’s Glow lounge, the place to be for a more private conversation or quick respite from the bustle of the event. Lifestyle and accessories pop-up shops, including Yohji Yamamoto, Lydeen, and Dolce Far Niente, will be open inside the lounge throughout the duration of the fair, with a DJ spinning this evening as visitors dine, shop, and mingle.

Design Dome will take place at Hall 15 of the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center, July 25-28, 2022. Doors open at 9 AM, and tickets are available for purchase on-site.
