Snake Pit's Kitchen Now Headed by Les 5 Chef's

Snake Pit has been in Shenzhen now for over 30 years. Before 2013, it served as a private members club and even moved around a few locations, but the heart and soul of Snake Pit is still here – acting as a hub for various sports teams, musicians and those just looking for a good pint on a hazy night out.

A new year calls for a revamp, and so Les 5 Chef’s (another long-running establishment in Shekou) is teaming up with Snake Pit, offering their full menu at the decades-old gastropub. For those still craving pub classics like nachos and onion rings, fear not as those are still on the menu.

Chef Harry Dax, an F&B veteran in Shenzhen, is behind Les 5 Chef’s. On the menu are many European dishes like schnitzel, flammkuchen and duck confit in addition to western favorites like paninis, soups, salads, pizzas and steak. Over time, Dax will be adding in a variety of top-quality steaks like M3-M5 wagyu and USDA cuts and will bring out a full range of wines (15!) plus some non-alcoholic beer and sparkling wine from Switzerland.

We sampled a variety of dishes from his new menu, check them out below:

mussels.jpgWe had the green-lipped mussels (RMB118) for starters. Comes with around six big mussels in a buttery garlic herb sauce. Image via That’s

panini.jpgThe parma panini (RMB88) is a winner! The bread is baked in-house and paired with tomato, mozzarella and pesto. Image via That’s

.jpgThe schnitzel (RMB108) was nicely battered, crisp and not greasy. Comes with two pieces and no other sides. Image via That’s

applepie.jpgTo top it off we had some lovely apple pie. The filling as you can see is two layers of fluffy cake and wasn’t too sweet. Image via That’s

In addition to Les 5 Chef’s spearheading the kitchen, Snake Pit is now focusing on live music (jazz, rock, country) on the weekends. They plan on also bringing in artists from Hong Kong when the border opens to jumpstart the music scene again in Shekou.
