The Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission reported this morning one asymptomatic imported case of COVID-19.

A 38-year-old British male took a flight from Germany on October 6, and arrived in Guangzhou on October 7 with his family (wife, one son and one daughter). As the family has two children under the age of 14, they submitted an application for home isolation in Shenzhen. After review by the relevant departments of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the family was transferred to their Shenzhen residence for isolation on October 10 through closed-loop management and was observed by the local prevention and control team.

Although the family tested negative upon entry, on October 20, the male tested positive.

A notice sent to Peninsula Phase II residents last night via WeChat state that the person and accompanying family members have been transferred to designated facilities for isolation. “Related places have been sterilized by the CDC…COVID-19 nucleic acid sampling and testing will be held free of charge for residents in the community” and will start at 8pm on October 21. A total of 963 samples were sampled and tested, all of which were negative as of press time.

If an individual has a residence in Shenzhen, they may apply for seven days of quarantine at a hotel, followed by seven days of quarantine in their home. All new cases of COVID-19 are treated in intensive isolation at Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital.

Shekou is an area home to many expats in Shenzhen at the southern tip of Nanshan district. The Peninsula in particular is a well-known upscale seaside apartment complex in Shekou. Those who work in the area have been advised to stay vigilant and wear masks, additionally various schools have advised students who live at the Peninsula to stay at home until tests have returned negative.
