On February 20, passengers aboard bus M373 in Shenzhen were shocked and appalled when one woman suddenly pulled her pants down, before sitting on a dust bin in a pose that suggested she was answering ‘the call of the wild.’
Images of the jaw-dropping moment soon began to circulate on Weibo, showing the woman sitting on a dust bin near the bus’ rear door, with passengers nearby plugging their noses.
While some netizens were quick to jump to the conclusion that the woman was pooping, Southern Metropolis Daily later interviewed the bus driver, Mr. Li, in an effort to find out what truly transpired.
According to Li, his bus, which was full of passengers, had just driven into Jiuwei Tunnel when he was told that someone was feeling sick and needed to get out of the bus. Li, however, thought the passenger was car-sick and refused to let her leave the bus, as it is forbidden to do so at non-designated stops. Instead, he suggested that the sick person use a plastic bag if she felt like puking.

When the bus reached its next stop, Li noticed that a large number of passengers got off the bus and thought the lady was among them.
It wasn’t until the bus reached the terminal station of the journey, at which point all of the other passengers had gotten off, that Li realized there was still one passenger left on the bus. The woman, who was staring at him from where she sat, said: “Sorry, I soiled your dust bin, but I’ll buy you a new one.”
After asking about the situation, Li found that the woman had unexpectedly gotten her menstrual period during the ride. After the incident, she was too embarrassed to pull her pants up until all of the other passengers had left.
She also told Li that she had been having irregular periods and this was the second time she had had to do the same thing on a bus.
Upon learning her story, Li reassured her that she was blameless before leaving the bus for her to get back on her feet.
