Sat, Sept 1: Minor Science at Oil Club

Minor Science has come a long way in his career, transforming from a leftfield house explorer into an engineer of hybrid, hi-tech music which doesn’t quite sound like anything else out there. His debut, 2014’s Noble Gas EP for connoisseur label The Trilogy Tapes, showed promise: its lead track, ‘Hapless,’ was played extensively by DJs like Ben UFO, and was described by Wire as “a pleasing clip round the ear.” The British producer has since become a key figure on Nic Tasker’s fast-rising Whities label, reflecting the label’s preference for unique artists with a bold sonic direction.
Three records for the label have seen Minor Science move both forwards — his music has become crisper, richer and more distinctive — and backwards, drawing on his formative experiences as a clubber in London’s dubstep scene and a longterm fascination with the UK’s dance heritage.
