In the heat and humidity that is Shenzhen’s summer, venturing outside for reasons unrelated to immediate survival can be a physically and emotionally taxing process. But when you just can’t stifle the urge to snap aesthetically pleasing, close-up pictures of yourself, we’ve got you covered with these six locations.

Huaqiangbei

With a graffiti-splashed mall and cool rooftop pools, not to mention a remodeled pedestrian street, Huaqiangbei's profile has been coming up over the last year. And while you're there, you might as well update your selfie gear with a 360-degree camera or smartphone stabilizer at the electronics markets.

Selfie features: 9 Square Shopping CenterFraser Suites' pool

See listing for Huaqiangbei.

i-Factory

Because who doesn't want to take a selfie in a former flour factory? In all seriousness, though, the i-Factory combines interesting art with a semi-abandoned industrial aesthetic. Plus, there's plenty of sculptural stairways and concrete backdrop to go around.

Selfie features: wall art, minimalist architecture, lots of concrete

See listing for i-Factory.

ING Market

This two-year-old marketplace is housed in a cool concrete warehouse-like venue, boasting a lively assortment of cafés and boutiques as well as an art exhibition space.

Selfie features: writing on walls, rotating art exhibits, artsy decorations

Nanhai e-Cool

This area is home to well-aged buildings, cute coffee shops, and plenty of artsy details like painted manhole covers and tires filled with flowers.

Selfie features: industrial buildings, vine-covered buildings, murals

OCT-Loft

Unsurprisingly, Shenzhen’s designated art district offers abundant opportunities for hip selfies, from gorgeous murals to trendy tea shops.

Selfie features: murals, Huajiancha’s interior, indoor and outdoor art installations

Sea World

At first glance, this vast commercial area centered around a huge ocean liner may not seem like the ideal selfie spot, but we were charmed by its vantage points and bright lights come nightfall.

Selfie features: Baia’s rooftop, Moline’s flowers and beer bottle walls, nighttime vistas

See listing for Sea World.
