Deadly Bus Crash Kills 2 Tourists in Guangzhou

Two Hong Kong residents are dead and nine seriously injured after their tour bus crashed on Qianhaichong Grand Bridge in Guangzhou’s Nansha District last night, according to South China Morning Post.

The deadly accident happened at around 10pm, when the tour bus, which was transporting 43 tourists from Hong Kong, collided with a stopped truck that that did not have its hazard signals turned on. 

“The entire front of the bus was destroyed. All of us got off the bus,” said one tourist, according to SCMP. “There was a lot of black smoke coming out of the vehicle and there was a person lying on the ground with blood everywhere …”

Deputy Director Choi To of Hong Kong’s economic and trade office in Guangdong confirmed that two Hong Kongers perished in the accident. He also stated that Immigration Department officials, along with the travel agency that organized the trip, are helping 32 tourists suffering from mild injuries return to Hong Kong.

As of 10.24am this morning, the nine seriously injured tourists were receiving treatment at local hospitals, with at least two in grave condition.
