September 25-October 1: Food & Beer Pairing Week #2 at TAPS Brewpub
This week, try the End of Days IPA and a serving of calamari at Taps Nanshan for RMB88 rather than the normal RMB118 pricing. The citrus notes of the IPA both balance and complement the squid in this recommended pairing.

September 27: Mi Carmen Flamenca
This adaptation of classic opera Carmen is spiced up with elements of jazz, salsa and flamenco. Fans of the original can experience well-loved songs with new rhythms and moves, while first-time viewers can still enjoy this fresh retelling of a tempestous love story.

September 27-October 2: The Bodyguard Musical
The Bodyguard, based on a 1992 film with a bestselling soundtrack by Whitney Houston, is a love story between a pop star and her you-know-who. The musical includes the movie's catchiest tunes in addition to new dance numbers; fans of the pop singer will find it worth their while to swing by.

September 28: Laugh Out Loud Comedy Competition at Xpats Bar
This stand-up competition is open to pros and amateurs alike. Competitors will face off against each other in three rounds – dad jokes, trash talk and freestyle – and the top three, chosen by audience vote, will go home with prizes. Registration for comedians has ended, but you can still come and see your friends perform. Tickets include one pint of beer.

September 29-30: Talent Audition Showcases at Hard Rock Hotel
In partnership with NetEase Cloud Music, the Hard Rock Hotel Shenzhen is holding a citywide competition searching for hidden musical talent. After a public vote on their submitted videos, the finalists will perform live at the hotel. Among the talent showcases, three DJ candidates will show off their stuff before judges (Native Instruments, Hard Rock Hotel Shenzhen) from 9-10pm, Sep 30, in the fifth floor lobby bar.

September 30: Johnny English Secret Agent Party at The Penthouse
Free flow whiskey, gin and tonics and other cocktails will be on the menu at this spy-themed event. There'll be cool party games and prizes waiting for the winners, as well as whoever shows up in the night's 'most glamorous' outfit.

October 1-6: Thai Cuisine Meets Seafood Buffet at Sheraton Dameisha Resort
Over Golden Week, the Sheraton Dameisha Resort is rewarding those who stay in the city with a combination of a Thai food festival and their regular seafood buffet. Besides food there will also be live shows involving face-changing and fire, plus an appearance by a certain monkey king.
