Shenzhen Fashion Week may have wrapped up last week, but for fashionistas and lovers of snappy dressing the couture culture continues.
The Future of Fashion Is Now exhibition is currently on display at OCT Art & Design Gallery. Organized by OCT Art & Design Gallery and DutchCulture (a Dutch center for international cooperation), it features works from 35 teams of artists from over 13 countries, including world-renowned designers like Viktor & Rolf and Martin Margiela.
With the goal of forging a better connection between China and the Netherlands, The Future of Fashion is Now has previously visited Shanghai, where the exhibition explored important developments in contemporary fashion through five themes: materials, the body, the fashion system, activism and three eyes.
To provide a communication platform among senior organizations and insiders in the fashion field, OCT Art & Design Gallery held a D-Talk Salon before the March 26 opening. Han Nefkens, José Teunissen and Sandra Tatsakis gave speeches on fashion, curating and collections at the session.
Displayed in a dark hall, the exhibition has a different feel than your typical arty affair, with videos, pictures and unique works offering guests a comprehensive understanding of modern fashion.
“Fashion reflects the era, just like a mirror. It has now more than ever become a phenomenon as a fusion of art, society and new ideas, and an indispensable part of visual arts as well," said Feng Feng, the curator of OCT Art & Design Gallery.
Organizers hope this exhibition will also inspire and encourage young blood to create and explore the world of fashion.
