After compiling data from last month’s Spring Festival, the Tourism Bureau of Guangdong reported the province saw a 10 percent increase in the total number of tourists compared to last year, with around 10.6 million visitors passing through.
During the 2016 Chinese New Year holiday, the top destinations in Guangdong were as follows:
1. Shenzhen (28.5 percent)
2. Guangzhou (25 percent)
3. Dongguan (9.8 percent)
4. Foshan
5. Zhuhai
6. Huizhou
7. Zhongshan
8. Jiangmen
9. Shantou
10. Zhanjiang
The Zhanjiang city tourism administration, however, claimed it was fourth on the list and reported over 500,000 visitors per day during the holiday. Monetary incentives issued by the Zhanjiang government could explain the site’s appeal, as those who traveled by air and spent two nights in the city were offered RMB500 per person.
Most visitors came from the provinces of Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Fujian, Sichuan and Fujian.
