From August 10 to 24, Mr. Irwanto, a Balinese guest chef, will be invited to Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen with his sous-chef, Mr. Deni, to bring an authentic taste of Bali to Coffee Garden.
Ayam betutu is an iconic Balinese delicacy which means ‘baked chicken wrapped with banana leaf.’ To create this delectable dish, chicken is stuffed with traditional Balinese spices and then wrapped in banana leaves. The chicken is then marinated with all the spices under a high heat, so that the aroma of the banana leaves, chicken and spices all meld together as one unwraps the dish.
Have you ever tried Balinese roasted suckling pig? Well, this is your chance. A whole pig is roasted over a charcoal fire and cooked to perfection, it’s truly a must-try!
After a meaty feast, you’re sure to need a sweet treat. You may have come across sweet green-colored balls of rice cake, known as klepon in the past. These balls of glutinous rice dough are filled with liquid palm sugar, then coated in grated coconut.
The Balinese Cuisine Festival is co-sponsored by Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen, the Indonesian Consulate and Nice Tour Travel Agency. On August 24, every Balinese Cuisine Festival attendee will have a chance to win wonderful prizes in a lucky draw, such as a four-night stay in Bali for one (including round-trip airline tickets), a two-night stay at a Shangri-La hotel, special Balinese snacks and more. Will you be the lucky one?
