Whether you're a beginner filmmaker or an entrepreneur who wants to make video promotions for their business, this workshop is designed to enable you to make your own videos and films. In 3 comprehensive sessions, we’ll cover the basics of what makes a great video, how to get started and how to go about shooting films with whatever equipment you have - even phone cameras. We finish with editing your videos and showcasing them at a public screening.

The space is VERY limited - I'm taking a very small class size so that we can give attention to every individual project. If you enroll, I will work with your special skill set to enable you to create your own projects. All you need is your enthusiasm and lots of ideas!

Session 1 - July 16: Introduction to film basics.

How to create a concept, script and flow for your video or short film. How to think of shots, angles and how to gather resources to film your video. Scriptwriting basics for social media, product videos and films. How to compose great shots using composition rules with hands-on exercises. Basic shot types for video and film.

Session 2 - July 23: Live shooting demonstrations.

How to film your video using your own equipment- whether it's a phoneora DSLR camera. Multiple live camera setups including shooting vlogs, interviews, 3 person live TV show setup, outdoor interview and film shoot setups. DSLR technical basics. What kind of crew is needed. How to set up lights or use available lighting. When to use outdoor locations and what to avoid or watch out for. How to record sound using different types of mics and mix music and best resources for free music for film use.

Session 3 - July 30: Introduction to film editing.

How to edit your videos and films using iMovie or Adobe Premiere. Hands on editing on your own projects. The most common types of cuts used in films, short videos and social media. How to start thinking about what kinds of cuts to make in your videos. How to create basic introduction and credit animations.

Session 4 - August 06: FREE Screenings

Film screenings from all students with extensive feedback from the instructor and the class. FREE for all students, friends and family to attend.
