Very troubling that hundreds of West Africans have been granted asylum in Beijing. In Hong Kong, a group of about 50 West Africans (from Gambia) awaiting decisions on asylum applications were arrested by police after a long investigation into a drug dealing network around LFK two years ago. Considering the visibility of West Africans as drug dealers in SLT, allowing hundreds of Liberians and Nigerians to stay awaiting asylum applications is a recipe for creating a big drug dealing community in SLT. If you care about SLT as a community then you should not want West Africans who claim asylum in this neighborhood. It doesn't make sense for anyone claiming to flee fear of persecution or torture to come all the way here from West Africa. There is likely a non-legitimate motive like selling drugs for coming to China to claim asylum.

I would like to add to all these rumours on VPN crackdowns the fact that only users of Chinese based VPN providers (using Mainland servers) will be affected. Users of foreign based VPN's (like VPNExpress e.g.) will not have to worry a bit. There is simply no technical way to block such connections, without blocking ALL international internet traffic.
