Jade on 36 has a new business lunch available for classy Lujiazui rendezvous. It’s not as expensive as you might think; two courses for RMB108, or three for RMB168 (both including a drink, plus the obligatory 15 percent service). Try the rich carbonara pasta with bacon and egg yolk (below), finishing up with crêpes Suzette. Available Monday-Friday from 11.30am-1.30pm at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel.

Brother’s Kebab is expanding at an alarming pace; they’ve just opened their third branch, this one on Pudong’s Nanquan Bei Lu (no.528, by Zhangyang Lu). Offerings remain the same: RMB28-48 shawarma chicken, beef and lamb in laffa or pita bread. Open late night!

Lots of change in Bund 18 this month, Bar Rouge is finally back with a raunchy new look, a revamped cocktail menu and some kinky artwork inside.

Paul Pairet's Mr & Mrs Bund is also now open for more late night dining after its renovation works, now with a decidedly more classy look inspired by a chic Parisian apartment. All the menu classics are still there, including the lemon tart, cod in a bag etc. Rumors are there'll be a weekend brunch starting before summer. Expect stampedes/mass social media uploads.

Mr and Mrs Bund Shanghai

The first signs of life have been seen at L'Atelier Joël Robuchon in Bund 18 (man himself pictured below) set to open this summer with any luck.

Wolfgang Puck’s new restaurant will open in partnership with local F&B mega group Xiao Nan Guo. Still no concrete details on what exactly the concept is, but we’ve heard rumors it’ll be more on the casual side.

Meanwhile in Jing’an, popular Rockbund-based bistro Light & Salt is opening a second branch on Shaanxi Bei Lu by Beijing Xi Lu.

Down the road at the Jing'an Shanghai Centre, Hawaiian joint Alan Wong’s– should – be opening this month. We’ll believe it when we see it, though: the place has been shuttered up for months with no activity… is there a heartbeat in there? Hope so.

Perfectly timed for our current ‘Young Money’ May issue, Morton’s has gone and designed a burger for the tuhao in us all. Aptly titled ‘The Million Dollar Burger,’ the RMB228 mega sandwich consists of Australian prime beef topped with thick slices of foie gras and hunks of braised short rib, drizzled with black truffle butter and served on a lightly toasted brioche bun. Oh, plus a side of hand-cut French fries. Jokes aside, we’re loving how they put the vegetables on the side. Yours for RMB228, only until May 31.

In healthier news, Lizzy's All Natural smoothies now has an official brick and mortar store (in addition to offering delivery via kateandkimi.com. Find it at Anken Life wellness center (667 Changhua Lu by Anyuan Lu). Make sure to check out the cold-brewed coffee and coconut iced latte (below center, RMB27), which has literally replaced our daily Starbucks order.

Over on the bar and club scene, FashionTV Babyface, a new club from the international FashionTV channel, known for its near constant stream of scantily clad models, has opened at Infinity Plaza on Huaihai Lu (by Pu'an Lu). Basically looks like a new incarnation of Rich Baby/the old Babyface but with more models. Sounds like great place to find your next tuhao boyfriend!

In more somber news, Malone’s, one of Shanghai’s longest standing venues is closing. Yes, that RMB50 Monday burger deal is no more (then again, on Mondays you can always go to CU2+ and get an excellent burger, fries and cocktail for RMB88). A loss nevertheless, we’ll be keeping an eye on that bit of prime real estate on Tongren Lu to see what takes its place.

Hankering for a drink on Sinan Zhong Lu? NO! CHAIR, a Japanese tachinomi-style bar (a quick-stop bar with no chairs, just tables) selling cheap(ish) cocktails, wine, beer and European food has just opened near the Jiangguo Zhong Lu intersection. Check for our review online soon!

Modern Sky, the record label behind Strawberry Music Festival unveiled plans to open live houses in Beijing, Chengdu and now Shanghai. Called Modern Sky Lab, the plan is to make a multi-concept cultural venue with live music, fashion and record stores all under one roof. No location or opening date set for the moment, we’ll dish the deets as they come.
