There's good news for those of us who are eager to travel to Europe. As China and the EU start to relax travel restrictions and resume flights, both Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) are now flying from Shanghai to Europe. As things return to normal in both China and Europe now is the perfect time to book a flight and take that dream vacation or visit family and friends in Paris, Amsterdam and Europe.

  • Shanghai to Paris, Flight No. AF193, Tue & Fri, Departure 10pm, Arrive 7.05am (+1 Day)

  • Paris to Shanghai, Flight No. AF198, Mon & Thu, Departure 9pm, Arrive 5pm (+1 Day)

  • Shanghai to Amsterdam, Flight No. KL858, Wed, Departure 7.55pm, Arrive 4.45am (+1 Day)

  • Amsterdam to Shanghai, Flight No. KL857, Tue, Departure 6.55pm, Arrive 2.55pm (+1 Day)

Both airlines have implemented strict measures to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers so they can travel safely from Shanghai to Paris and Europe.

Air France

To make getting to Europe a breeze, Air France plans to fly to 150 destinations. In addition, several routes will resume between Paris and other regions in France, as well as inter-regional routes, including the beautiful island of Corsica. If you're looking to explore outside of France, getting to other countries in Europe – such as Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal – will also be a cinch.

“Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 crisis, Air France places the health and safety of our customers and staff at the heart of its concerns and is mobilizing all of our teams to ensure customers can travel with complete peace of mind and confidence. After this difficult period, we feel very much delighted to welcoming our customers to fly with us again with our resumed flights to their destinations in China,” said Toon Balm, General Manager of Air France-KLM, Greater China.

Air France Resumes Flights

  • 2 weekly passenger flight from Paris (Charles de Gaulle) to Shanghai (Shanghai Pudong International Airport) as of June 18

  • Strict health and hygiene measures both on the ground and onboard

  • Continued cargo flights to transport medical and other essential supplies

  • Air France plans to serve close to 150 destinations worldwide this summer

  • Before travelling, Air France recommends customers contact the relevant authorities to check entry and travel requirements for their destination and transit countries, which may change due to COVID-19

Air France Protects: The Promise of a Safe Trip

For those who are nervous about flying, Air France is doing everything they can to make sure your journey is both safe and enjoyable. Air France now requires all customers to have their temperatures checked and wear surgical masks on all flights. Daily aircraft cleaning protocols have been stepped up and a specific procedure for the regular disinfection of cabins with an approved virucidal spray is being used.

Air France’s Safety Measures

  • Temperature checks have been progressively implemented on the departure of all Air France flights as of May 11.

  • The compulsory wearing of masks for all crewmembers and agents in contact with customers

  • The modification of customer channels on the ground with the implementation of physical distancing along the customer's journey at the airport and the installation of Plexiglas protection screens at airports when possible.

  • The implementation of physical distancing on board where possible. On most flights, the current low load factors make it possible to separate customers as required. In cases where this is not possible, all passengers and crew are required to wear masks to ensure adequate health protection.

  • The reinforcement of daily aircraft cleaning procedures, with the disinfection of all surfaces in contact with customers such as armrests, tables and screens.

  • The introduction of a specific procedure for the periodic disinfecting aircraft by spraying an approved virucidal product effective for 10 days.

  • Adapting in-flight service to limit interaction between customers and crewmembers. On domestic flights and short flights in Europe, meal and beverage services have been suspended. On long-haul flights, cabin service is limited and preference is given to individually wrapped products.

  • In addition, the air in the cabin is refreshed every three minutes. The air recycling system on board Air France aircraft is equipped with 'High Efficiency Particulate Air' or HEPA filters, identical to those used in hospitals.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

We have good news for travelers because KLM Royal Dutch Airlines resumed flights to and from Shanghai on July 21.

Zhang Guosheng, Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy and Pieter Elbers, President & CEO of KLM, celebrate the first passenger flight from KLM to Shanghai on July 21.

“Once again, we are proving our commitment to the China market by resuming our passenger services to China in a careful manner against the COVID-19 background. With all the hygiene measures taken on board and on the ground, we want to ensure our customers fly with KLM as safely and comfortably as possible,” said Toon Balm- General Manager of Air France KLM, China.

A Safe and Smooth Journey with KLM

Here's a glimpse of what to expect during your journey:

  • From now until August 31, wearing facial protection on board is mandatory for all KLM passengers and crew.

  • All KLM service desks are fitted with transparent screens. Staff regularly cleans and disinfects all desks and self-service machines. Ground markings and signage help everyone to keep the required physical distance, both at check-in and when boarding.

  • Other measures include aircraft being cleaned more frequently and more thoroughly and keeping contact between crew and passengers during the flight to a minimum.

  • Rest assured, the risk of contamination on board the aircraft is low. The modern aircraft are all equipped with High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters, which provide clean, high-quality cabin air with a high degree of air circulation. The air is refreshed every three minutes by the aircraft's built-in air supply system.

  • Should someone onboard show symptoms of the coronavirus, the crew is well prepared. A strict protocol for infectious diseases automatically comes into effect. In that case, face masks from special 'corona kits' are used. The crew then automatically isolates the affected passenger and assists those who were seated nearby.
